SOP Sample for PhD in Computer Science

I have always believed in learning new things and acquiring knowledge, all the while putting it into practice. This quote has given words to my thoughts on the process of acquiring knowledge. In the course of my undergraduate degree, I took a keen interest in developing my skill set and knowledge while keeping abreast of the latest trends in technology and the world of computing, be it mobile computing or machine learning. I am self-motivated and a self-starter. I am highly motivated to accomplish my goals and think critically to solve issues that I face while interacting with my surroundings every day using technology.

I have completed my schooling in June 2004. Thereafter I took admission to BE Information Technology which I successfully completed in Nov 2009. My determination is what has been my motivation. Throughout my graduation in 2009, my dream was to excel in studies and help to get an education for others. So, I started working as a lecturer in Aug 2010 at KJMN College of engineering which brought me close to sharpening my professional skills. In that period I carefully observe the loophole in me and understand the importance of specialization in the subject. So, I decided to pursue a Master’s in Computer Science. I successfully cleared with admission for Master of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering at HNJG College of Engineering, Helsinki. I also got a scholarship from the Ministry of Human Resource and Development to pursue my studies. While studying I worked as a Teaching Assistant and completed my post-graduation in July 2017. I also worked as an Assistant professor at Yellow Hat, Helsinki. With this education and experience, I feel confident to embark on the journey of research. 

While studying for a master’s degree I got the impression that abroad education is more valuable, practical oriented, demanding, and focus on recent research areas. So, I started searching for a university according to my area of interest and was looking for scholarships available to study abroad. I come to know about the Government of Finland’s ’s National Overseas Scholarship, I applied and after a long wait got a selection letter. This scholarship I have to invest in my interesting area of research. I approached the UK and New Zealand Universities and after investing one year and a lot of discussion with supervisors I got acceptance from two different universities of a different country. One is Swansea University the UK offers me a Doctorate of Philosophy in Computer Science and the other is Auckland University of Technology, Auckland New Zealand which is accepted for Doctor of Philosophy in Computer and Information Science. Meanwhile, in Jan 2016 I traveled to the USA on a study visa but deny entry at the port of entry because of a fraudulent agent and bogus university.

Some of the Workshops attended by me:

I have participated in a workshop on Cybersecurity concepts and training using Linux, organized by (Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Govt. of Finland). I have participated in a workshop on Control System, organized by (Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Govt. of Finland) Dec 2018.

Scholarships:

• I am the recipient of the Postgraduate Scholarship to study Master of Technology granted by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development.

• I have received a full scholarship from the Government of Finland to complete my Ph.D. studies abroad.

Reason for choice of course

Minds theory is an interesting topic of the research area and I am working on this since my post-graduation. I submitted this area of research as my Master’s degree project but the review committee rejected this project saying this is not feasible and time-consuming. From that time I myself working on this and looking for any other researchers over the world. Fortunately, I found Prof Wai Yeap working at AUT University, Auckland New Zealand. The professor working in this area for 30 years and after communicating for almost 1 year I realize that this is the place where I can invest my research time and money given by the Government of Finland.

My Aspirations:

I am deeply interested in pursuing my Ph.D. in Computer Science & Engineering. A Ph.D. degree from the prestigious University of LMNO would most certainly help me achieve my goals in life.

LMNO University, with its focus on ‘research driving innovation’  will help me build a very strong base for research because of which I’ll be able to venture into high tech research and thus quench my thirst for it. I believe my strong fundamentals and conviction for research will help me get to the very core of my research problem and succeed in getting solutions to the problem. I hope that my application will be considered favorably. Through my diligent research, it is clear that your university offers one of the most exhaustive course curriculums which will help me build a broader understanding of the subject. I feel stimulated to interact with eminent industry practitioners and assimilate multidisciplinary perspectives. Also, I am impressed with the achievements and the testimonials of the alumni. I am well prepared to complete a rigorous and complete program and keen to work on complex assignments with my peers and receive exceptional mentoring from leaders.  At LMNO, I am particularly drawn towards Prof…………… work on ……………… and Prof ………………….. work on……………………………. I look forward to assisting and gaining experience in one of these projects that align with my research objectives. 

I hope that I have represented my purpose and intent in a precise and determined manner. Therefore, I solicit my application for a Ph.D. in Computer Science and engineering at your University. I wish to look far beyond the horizons of present-day knowledge of Computer science with a hope for better tomorrow and I would gain tremendously by pursuing graduate studies at your esteemed university. The international exposure will evolve me professionally and personally.
