“Our knowledge is the amassed thought and experience of innumerable minds”
– R .W. Emerson
If someone were to ask my friends to describe me they would describe me as a pleasant & intelligent personality coupled with a great amount of entrepreneurial spirit. I think the last quality is one of my most distinguishing characteristics. Besides I have a strong sense of ethics and ownership. Being entrepreneurial has given me a very broad outlook, with varying degrees of knowledge in a range of topics. I strongly believe that although some are not related directly, all these qualities will influence my graduate work.
I have been brought up in a highly educated and cultured family with strong moral values and a focus on not only academic excellence but also on overall development. They have imbibed in me certain values that I have now grown up, that of striving to be a better and compassionate human being. This has made me the person I am today. I am always up for any challenge and make the best of every situation. I love meeting people and learning about their cultures.
Education has long been acknowledged as a necessary ingredient in the set of actions for ensuring an equitable distribution of economic well-being. From my experiences during my own academic pursuits and as a professional and volunteer in the education sector, I have come to understand the need for sharp managerial talent to achieve these objectives. In order to prepare me to contribute to this, I seek to complete the Doctorate program in Management.
All through my years of study, my academic performance has maintained a high stature. Immediately after completing my undergraduate degree in Electronics Engineering, I joined Central System and Technologies, Melbourne, Australia as Senior Technical Executive. This tenure introduced me to the managerial function in an organization and let me assume a number of such roles. After completing 2 years here, intending to prepare me for higher technical roles, I pursued and completed my Master’s in Electrical Engineering.
After the completion of my Master’s, I joined the Bank of Beirut as Deputy Manager of their Information Technology Division. I later moved to the National Information Centre, Sydney, as Operations Manager and Programmer. These tenures allowed me to closely study business processes and how IT helped improve productivity.
I pursued a Doctorate program at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at R.T.M., Auckland. Under the supervision of Dr. James Anniston, Professor and Head, ETC Dept, HIJK Institute, I completed my Thesis on a ‘Designing Approach for Transcoding Multimedia over wireless channels and its applicability for mobile devices’. During the program, I had assumed responsibility as a Reviewer & Member of the Technical Program Committee for International Journals and Conferences, which sharpened my coordination and PR skills.
During the doctorate program, I completed 12 other technical papers, all of them surrounding Multimedia Transcoding, and published them in international journals including the International Journal of Computer Networking, Wireless and Mobile Communications.
Computer Applications. I have also presented papers at international conferences including the International Conference on Innovative Computing Communication Technology, IEEE Symposium on Wireless Technology & Applications, and International Conference on Control, Communication and Power Engineering. As some of these conferences were at locations abroad, I had the opportunity to mingle with professionals from different backgrounds and with different perspectives.
PQRS Polytechnic Institute, as Head of Department, Electronics Engineering. In this position, that I continue to occupy, I began appreciating the importance of effective and efficient management for the success of academic organizations. It threw open before me the doors to better utilization of resources within my country to design and administer educational programs that meet the current and anticipated needs of all sections of its population.
My Aspirations:
I am deeply interested in pursuing my Doctoral Degree in Management with a specialization in Organizational Behavior & Entrepreneurship. Why now? Because; I seek career advancement by enhancing my dual skills-leadership ability and functional knowledge. Besides there are skills, which I can’t obtain while working in my present organization nor can, I obtain them by switching jobs. Also, my current job responsibilities are leading me towards unilateral growth within the recruitment function. This would not serve both short-term and long-term objectives.
My short-term goal is to secure a position as a consulting specialist in a multinational firm. In the long term, I hope to start my own management-consulting firm in the Netherlands. The firm that would serve both local and international customers by providing cost-effective, adaptable solutions ranging from an in-house functional change in generic processes to proposing best practices and by implementing major changes within organizations. In order to accomplish this goal, however, I must deepen my knowledge in strategy and implementation. Despite my experience, I still lack some fundamental knowledge in operations and important management skills, especially in Leadership.
The XYZ Graduate School of Business Ph.D. program is the perfect bridge from where I am to where I want to be. Courses such as Business Process Management, Change Management, and Management Consulting Skills will give me the opportunity to apply the theory, models, and techniques I learn in the classroom to the real world. I value the fact that at your university, education does not stop at the classroom, rather continues through internships and group projects. I am also attracted to Field-based Learning through Management Consulting Teams and I am sure that the experience, which I will gain while working on-site, will increase my practical knowledge in consulting. I feel that a business school for aspiring consultants should balance a dose of theory with real-world applications. Your curriculum and hands-on experiences through internships, field study, provide such balance.
I look forward to joining the program this fall with full financial aid.
